Why are puppy so expensive??
We breed for our own purposes first, always trying to improve our lines and betterment of the breed through health testing and adding lines for the preservation of the Labrador standard. Many factors and endless vet visits are just a small part of breeding, multiple progesterone tests, artificial insemination, surgical insemination's, ultrasounds to confirm pregnancy, X-ray for puppy counts, sleepless nights waiting for puppies to arrive, assisting and comforting our dog during labor and puppy delivery, post delivery care and a multitude of other factors and situations which others don't see: Time, blood, sweat and tears.
ENGLISH VS AMERICAN - IS THERE A DIFFERENCE?
Among Labrador enthusiasts, it is commonly understood that there are two types of Labrador Retrievers: the Bench Bred “English” Labrador and the Field Bred “American” Labrador, though neither the EKC nor the AKC differentiate between the two. Officially, on both sides of the Atlantic, there is only one breed standard for the ‘Labrador Retriever.’ However there are differing allowances for size, which makes sense since they are, in fact, different in size and in other ways.
English Labs tend to be stockier with wider heads, a fuller face, and shorter muzzle. They also have shorter legs and a thicker coat. American Labs, on the other hand, are more streamlined looking with long legs and a lean, athletic build. They have narrower heads and thinner coats.
In general, because American Labs have long been bred to excel in field trials, they tend to be a bit more high-strung, with a high energy level that must be channeled in a constructive way, either through exercise or some sort of “job;” otherwise they can develop behavioral problems. English Labs as a rule are calmer, quieter, and easier to manage. Both are very affectionate, with a strong desire to please their owner or handler, which, combined with their intelligence, makes them very trainable. Depending on the needs of your family, one “line” may be a better fit than the other, but if properly bred and raised, you can’t go wrong with either.
